hi, i bought a 95 spx but it needs an engine rebuild, or at least the seals for the injection because it flooded my cylinders. while its out,you guys think i should make it premix or leave it? also, mainly i was wondering once i pull the motor, is there antifreeze i should pour anywhere to keep from freezing? like the muffler or jet pump, or anywhere? thanks

If you like you should sign up for our "Premium Membership", so you can get a manual it explains just what you need to do to winterize and repair the crank seals too. As far as parts you could go to our "Parts" link for all you parts needs.

mainly was worried about what i should winterize other then the engine, because it's already out. does the jet or anything else need to be winterized? because thats all going to be stored outside.
thanks

engine?

As long as you protect the engine from freezing, you shouldn't have to worry about the rest of the ski...........

With the exhaust manifold disconnected from the engine, the small amout of water that may remain in there, will have room to expand if it does freeze.

If you want to be certain, where you see the water jacket of the tuned exhaust, pour a cap or two of anti freeze through that opening. Disconnect any water line you have laying in a way it may have water holding, that way, it won't freeze in the line. It wouldn't cause major damage but it would shorten the life of the hose.

Some people are completly against deleting the oil injection. I for one am all for it. Some places you can buy an engine from wont even warranty their engines if you use the oil pump. As long as you know how to mix fuel your good to go, and the machines are 50:1. For break in period it may be a little richer, say 40:1.

You can also change the fluid in the cone of the jet pump incase it leaks or there is water in it and you can inspect it for wear or damage while its off.

VROI...or variable rate oil injection?

The VROI system in the Rotax supplies the proper amount of fuel to oil ratio in low speed and high speed application. While I agree with both sides of this issue, there is extra cost involved from running more oil than necessary. With the price of petroleum products, I can't justify paying that extra cost when I can inject the oil by design.

But, for so many that don't fully understand the oiling requirements or what to look for when they are running the VROI engine, I would recommend pre-mix. As stated by 6KJR, some dealers will not warranty the older model engine if you do not disable the injection pump.

Go with the Ford-Mazda relationship. A Turbo 4.0 would do the trick.
