Hi. I posted this in the new members area. re posting here.. hope it's ok.
I'm new here, been stalking this forum for months.
a few questions I have. I'm looking to buy a 95 speedster, per the seller it ” runs, but needs engine work”.
For 1,400$. The boat overall looks good, from the pics. Other than seats need re upholstered.
Question 1: anything I should watch out for on a 95?
2: i'm aware that the engines might be shot. And prepared to replace if needed. It has the ”650's” i'm assuming 657's?
Can I upgrade the engines to the 717's? Is it worth it?
3: I've yet to find anyone talk about what type of fuel economy they are getting with old(er) speedsters.
Thanks.

Welcome.

If it needs engine... and upholstery... it's probably not worth $1400.

Yes... you can put in 720 engines... but to take advantage of the higher HP and RPM's... you will need all the electronics too. But... since it's not that much more HP over the "X" version... it's not worth the upgrade.

At full throttle... you will be drinking about 16 gal/hr. But... if you are running at about 35 mph, and 70% power... you will burn about half of that.

Thanks Dr.
not worth it huh? Would it be more beneficial to seek out a single engine Doo? Or a 4 tec? Specifically on fuel consumption.
My only experience with boats is my 77 Glasstron with 115 Johnson. (can I say that here, lol)
It'll keep me on the lake for a day and a half with 20 gallons. But won't preform anywhere near a SeaDoo.
