Hello forum! I just acquired a 95 Seadoo that has been sitting for 2 years. Previous owner said that it was running great before and would start right up. We put a new battery in it and filled up the gas tank and topped off the oil. I'm a newbie to jetskis and don't have a clue as to where to start. I figured i'll have to change plugs, but what else should I check for? I'm pretty mechanically inclined and would like to get her running on my own rather than sending it off to the shop. Previous owner also said that the top end has been rebuilt.

Thanks!
Eric

My girlfriend's '96 Seadoo SPX was shutdown 5 years ago without any storage preparation whatsoever. I got it running again, but it took quite a bit of work.

The gas in your Seadoo has definitely gone bad after two years. Although you topped off your gas tank with fresh gas, you've still got the old gas, along with the resulting varnish and residue, still inside your fuel lines and carburetor(s). Also, depending on how much old/contaminated gas was still remaining in your gas tank, your entire gas supply may still be contaminated.

Others may recommend a different approach, but I removed the gas tank to remove all possible old/contaminated gas from the tank. I then removed the carburetor(s), completely disassembled it, and cleaned all parts with carburetor cleaner and high pressure air. Ideally, you'd probably want to rebuild it with a new carburetor rebuild kit ($35-$50). However, I only cleaned and reassembled using the existing parts and was able to get it up and running.

Assuming no other problems (electrical, mechanical, etc), your '95 should start right up with a little priming of the carb. Good luck!

I agree with waterman, but I would replace the gray fuel lines if it still has them.
