Hey Guys
My 95 GTX has a 657X motor finally got it running AWESOME better then ever but The top 4 exhaust bolts keep vibrating loose and falling out causing the ski to pump water into the engine compartment. I tried new allen bots and a new stud with lock washer nothing worked. then I used 2 kinds of locktite and that just caused the one stud to SNAP off. I checked the rubber mounts and the engine mounts and nothing looks abnormal. It took 45mins of riding the other day to get them to come loose and fall out but it happened. I have an extra Parts ski I was thinking of just swapping the exhaust and rubber mounting bushings but I am open to try anything H E L P ! I am soooo frrustrated at this point. Thanks

Most thread lockers will decay with the temps of the exhaust.

New, high pressure lock washers are needed... and, do not over tighten them. This may sound backwards, but since there is a lot of expansion in the metal of the exhaust system... when you over tighten the bolts, they stretch. Then, when the engine cools down, they will be able to vibrate out the next time you run the engine.

Finally... I like to put a little high temp RTV on the threads to help them from vibrating out.

The pipe may have warped abit or you don't have washers (between) down where the pipe mounts to the side of engine, cocking the top flange, opening
the engine side where the four (three + 1 stud) fasten the exhaust manifold.

Yup those rubber mounting/dampening doughnuts should prob be replaced...if they are distorted the pipe is always kinked.

Follow Dr.s instructions on the mani bolts.

Also...slowly tighten bolts in a sequence like a head. That will work the pipe into the sweet spot before any one bolt is fully tight.

Make sure the cone on the pipe isnt the problem... if its turned the pressure put on it from the waterbox will carry all the up the pipe.

Another question on this topic

Thanks Guys !! it is a good thing I have a Parts ski :)

OK - I have the same issue, and I saw the suggestions. Sounds like what i need. I have a 1992 Seadoo GTX that I just got used - ran like a top. Then water in the compartment and the Exhaust manifold, which is only held on by TWO bolts/nuts (The side near the engine, the other side does not have bolts sticking up) - and I got new nuts to put on, but they rattle off. Here is the dumb question:

1) I saw the suggestion for special nuts - where do i get them?
2) Washers - do I use rubber washers to dampen the shaking/vibrations? Also - where do I get them?
3) One person mentioned using some type of lubricant - where do I get it?

I'll print out the entire thread and go to the nearest dealer, but I have no idea if I can get these things at Lowes. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff - so any details would help! Thanks!

At the risk of participating in a hi-jacked thread. I don't know much about your machine but are you sure there are only two fasteners holding on your exhaust pipe?

2 Bolts on Exhaust Manifold

Hello! I apologize if I'm not supposed to post on this thread. I just joined and had read other posts where people were instructed to find threads that dealt with their problems before posting a new thread.

Yes, the top of the exhaust manifold (Looks like a big curved metal tube) comes down and is supposed to rest on the top of the part that attaches to the side engine. There are four holes in the top where four posts are supposed to come through, but there are only two posts coming through nearest the engine - the other side is empty. i can see there are places to install two additional posts, I just don't know where to get them, etc. I printed out pages from a manual I downloaded and was going to take them to a Seedoo dealer. Yesterday I also noticed that there are supposed to be two bolts to hold this curved metal tube to the side of the manifold (to make it more sturdy, I'm assuming, so it won't rattle apart) - there is only one place in the tube for a bolt. I get the feeling that this curved metal tube could be an after-market piece which isn't exactly the right piece, which could explain why I have one tube that is part of the cooling system laying on the floor of the ski not attached to anything. It comes from the back part of the ski, but doesn't attach to the motor anywhere.

I think I'll be taking this entire thing to the seedoo dealership - not sure if I'm in over my head. I know I could re-attach the manifold if I had the pieces, just not sure why there is one cooling tube laying on the floor of the ski - it's not spewing out any water, and it's darker than the other tubes, so I'm assuming it hasn't had water running through it for some time.

Thanks for your help.

You will have to be the judge of your skill level. However, I will tell you that there is a great deal of knowledge here on this forum and they are more than willing to help. If you decide to do in yourself, I suggest that you take some photos's and post them and that will give people a better idea of what you are talking about. I don't know what the shops charge in your area but you can expect to pay at least 80 to 100.00 per hour for labor. Take care and good luck, we are here if we can help.
