Good morning! Im getting around to replace the exhaust manifold on the 97 GTI I bought. The existing manifold has a broken bolt which I think would actually be the original stud. I have purchased a used one to replace it with. The ? is anyone offended by just using all bolts or should I locate a stud and put it back together that way. Im guessing the stud is there to help aligning the pipe. I can get decent stainless hardware so Im good there. I appears that bushings the support the pipe are there but I need to inspect condition. They are not available from my understanding but there is a aftermarket product any thoughts on that.

Thanks

Check OSD Seadoo for the bushings.
If the bushings aren't perfect you will continue to break the bolts no matter what you do.

The stud is needed because there isn't enough room for a bolt with the way the pipe is cast.

Ok Ill look into it. If I understand the image correctly the stud is fitted motor side and forward on the manifold. Before I did any looking around I would have figured it went where the pipe and has beefed up gusset on the outside away from the motor. Ill assume that will be fun to put a bolt in and tighten up.
