Hi - I have a 94 SP that will run great for 20 mins or so, die, fire up for 10, die, time to get home. Battery is dead. Recharge and ready to go again. I read a bad rectifier will show high VDC with revs, but mine stays the same. I’m sure this is simple, but can’t find a solid answer. Thanks in advance!

Lots of possibilities.

First quick idea that comes to mind is pull the gas cap next time it dies and listen to see if the tank is pressurized and blows air out or if it draws air in. You should have some pressure in the tank, if it draws air in then inspect the one way check valve on the hose that runs up to the fitting mounted in the hull just forward of the hood latch post, this is the inlet air vent line for the tank.

Normally a fuel line restriction would show up with the first couple of wide open shots. However, this isn't to say it could be a contributor. Check your gas filter/water seperator for a clean bowl and screen. The condition of the fuel system, air tight, no Grey fuel lines, carb is clean with a clean filter screen inside. All of this needs to be in good operating condition to eliminate other possibilities.

Appreciate the response, but the lines are new, it’s an electrical issue. Battery dies as the day goes on. I just cut out the rectifier…..gonna start there before I pull the stator.

Put your meter on the battery,,,if it stays around 12 or so volts,,,and is constant,,,,,,it’s not charging,,,should be 12.6 to 13 plus,,,

Thank You - That is exactly what happens, regardless of revs. Full charge battery, 12.4 or so….starts and drops to 10ish, back to 12.4. Nothing with a subsequent rev. Hope it’s the cheap regulator.

Yup…when the reg goes,,,the voltage just sticks at one number,,,on a 4tek,,,I had one that stuck at 11.9 volts,,,an instant tell tale sign..with Regis,,,the Chinese ones usually are good,,,but don’t get a Chinese starter.

Well, replaced the regulator. Reads 12.4 before starting, dropped to 10ish, rebounds back to 12.3…..no change with revving it. Shut it down and watch the volts creep up to 12.4 again. Stator??
