I bought this 94 seadoo xp a few months ago. I have had it out on the lake 4 or 5 times with no problems. Today i went out to the lake (there was alot of grassy junk floating around by the docks). I unloaded the ski into the water and it ran fine for a few minutes and then it just started slowing and reving and not moving anymore. My first intial thought was that the ski sucked some of the grassy junk up in it, but i took off the grate under the hull and pulled the grassy junk from it and tried to put it back in the water and it just reved up and wouldnt go anywhere.....any suggestions on what could be wrong, and/or how to fix it?

same thing happened to my 96 xp today

looked at the drive shaft the front boot is tore off

can't tell if front splines are chewed up or not

if so what do i have to replace?

Thanks

Pull the boot back and see what the coupler looks like. You might want to pull the pump and check the shaft.

I dont see any coupler??

attached is the drive system diagram

You actually could have stripped splines in the PTO flywheel, or where it goes into the pump. Have not seen that a lot, but I have seen it. The shaft is a harder steel than the PTO flywheel, I would venture the flywheel would be stripped before the shaft.

yep just got it apart and both are stripped.

anyone know what years would have the same pto and drive shaft?

Is there a way to get the pto off and hold the motor from turning without the flywheel lock??

The flywheel would be dependent upon which motor you have in your 94 XP, so would need to find the same motor for flywheel. Then shaft for similar model, I am certain a 93XP and 94XP are very similar, mainly you would need to match the length of your shaft, and the splines should be the same. Hope that helps.

the original post was a 94

I have a 96 xp didn't mean to highjack his thread but didn't want to double post the same thread

Can I take a plug out and put a rope in the plug hole to hold the motor from cranking over? to get the PTO off? We use a rope for a piston stop on dirtbikes.

Yes, a piece of line will hold it tight so you can remove the pto. Be sure it is on top of the piston and not down a port.
