Hey guys- great forum.

I have never owned a PWC of any kind- but have ridden many of them and always wanted one of my own. Anyway I had a friend approach me with an offer to buy his 1993 5852... only kicker is there is a rod through the block so it needs an engine. He wants $500 for the boat and trailer. I did a NADA check and it said that high value on it with a trailer was just north of $1000. It will also need a seat, and just some general cosmetic work. At this point I say an engine and seat, but it will likely need other stuff as I do the work on it. Another problem is the engine was already removed from the boat... so that is going to make it interesting putting a new engine in when I didnt remove the old one. I have done some searching and have not been able to find any engine prices, or seat prices. If he wants $500 for it, and its only worth $1000+ I dont have much wiggle room here.

Any help is appreciated guys- thanks!!

I do not mean to be negative but I think that the seller should part it out he will probbly be able to make more than $500.00 in parts and a litle more for his time. the ski is old and may have more wrong with it now or soon to come. this will alow others to get the parts they need and for seller not to end up with a buyer who sunk a ton of money into a ski that may not pan out as a buyer may think it would.

Thats fine, dont think your being negative- that is exactly what I wanted to know. I would hate to buy my first ski and have it be nothing but problems. Perhaps I will look around for something else. I dont mind something that might need a little work, but I dont want something that will nickel and dime me to death abd strand us in the middle of the lake.

If you can buy one that you can ride before you buy it. That would be better than one that is not runing. Make sure that it has no performace problems. these engines do not normaly wear out they just break before they get to that point. they turn such high rpms that if you have a performance problem chances are that it will soon be breaking if the problem is not resolved. Older and newer used ski's are going to nickel and dime you to death. Nickels and dimes are realy not the correct words to be useing. maybe hundred dollar bills and thousand dollar bills would be more like it. If you are a mechanic or do not mind learning to repair your own you can ride for less than half the cost of someone who takes their ski to a shop :cheers:cheers:
