Long story short I put a new top end on due to the previous owner (a rebuild and sell guy) not putting the oil pump driveshaft in. I wanted to verify that the oil pump is working accurately before I fire this thing up. According to the book I am supposed to rotate the shaft counter-clockwise at 1500 with the pump bled and the pump 'wide open'. I did this for about 30 seconds and did not get any fluid movement in the lines.

Am I doing the test wrong? Is there another way to test this pump? From the little bit I can find they dont really fail.

The test is with the pump out... and spinning it with a drill. Is that how you are testing it?

Yes..on the bench, I am a little leery to put it on and run engine until I know it is pumping oil!(new rotary valve, rotary valve cover, pistons and cylinders already!)

Well... if there is a supply of oil... and it's bled... it should pump oil in the small lines about 1/8" every 3 seconds. (This is also holding the pump to full)

It's very rare that the pumps fail... so I would be more inclined to think that there is a bubble in the pump, and it's not pushing it out.

Tony,
Thanks for the feedback. I rigged up a little better "test bench" as it was hard to get the drill rotating smoothly on the flat input shaft of the pump. A trick I found was a 6 point 9/32 socket fits over the shaft quite nice allowing the rotation to be smooth. A little extra bleeding and all is well pump works! Jetski is up and running after final assembly yesterday. Hope to get on the water today or tomorrow!!!
