I currently have a '97 SPX with the 110hp 787. Great ski and have a great time on it. I'm not much into top speed, I spend my time with tailstands, spins, slides etc.
Just curious how much different this hull is with the 717. Looks like the the fuel usage on the 717 is quite abit better than my 787.
Anyone have seat time on both?
Is there that much better power with the 787?

Boy do I have seat time on both. Many of us here do. I think the simple 717 does a great job.

The new racing rules just came out that involve the old two-strokes racing against the new Sparks. They capped the two-strokes at 735cc. This makes 717 powered X4's the thing to have. Hopefully folks will wake up and start gobbling them up.

Is the fun factor that much better on the 787's?
Does the 717 stock have the power to pop the ski out of the water etc.

Yes if your trim is up a 717 will hop out of the water. Yes the 787 is better though. The opening of the rave valves really puts the "wow factor" in it. The 787 is a lot smoother also with it's counter balance shaft.

The 717 is a bit lighter and louder. If you had both then the 717 X4 would probably be your friend ski.

I had a. 96 Spx . One bad assss ski . Light , reliable , will jump clear out of the water if you slam it , most fun I've ever had in my life..... Until I bought my 96 XP

Long live the 2 stroke Seadoo!

I had a 717 and really liked it, was plenty strong and fast for me, would scoot my butt across the lake well, didn't need to ride WOT, I'm no speed demon. Never tried pulling a skier, doubt it could've. This ski was light green, dunno which model (XP?). I'd guess the 780 has noticeably more grunt, haven't ridden one.
