I just purchased a 2004 sportster 4tec. Starts and seems to run good.
First issue: the gauges and switches. Fuel gauge never has worked but the others work until all of a sudden nothing works. Bilge fan rpm nothing. Just dead. Might come back in 10 seconds might not for hours.
Second issue: water is coming in from back right drain. Replaced the scupper valve and it didn’t help. This is an issue when the bulge pump stops working.
Third issue: I’ve had several boats including jet boats but never a seadoo. What should the cruising rpm be. Seems like no matter how fast it is above 6000. This might be normal?

Thanks for any help!

Can’t help you with your electrical gremlin. Regarding the scupper leaking, that’s not good or normal. The valve is not the issue, as it should not leak even with no scupper flapper. Check the hose, the hose clamp, the thru-hull fitting very closely with a bright light. Something is cracked and leaking. Cruising at 6000 sound about right, what mph are you getting?

I would go thru all your connections,,,sounds like maybe some corrosion,,,check grounds,,,check fuses,,and fuse holders if there sre any,,.check grounds to the motor,,,

Thanks for the responses. At 6000 cruising at 35 mph or so. Haven’t checked in gps just the gauges. Just wanted to make sure that it always has high rpms. Figured it did. At full throttle it is around 55 mph and 8000 rpms
Plan on checking the ground tomorrow. Checked all fuses and connections and all was good.

I have a 951 jet boat,,,and the scupper is leaking at the joint,,,and will need a monkey to bloody well get there...just slowly back the trailor into the water,,,but not all the way in...have a super bright flashlight and look at the scupper,,,you may be very close to being upside down,,,it was obviously installed when the upper half was not!,,maybe send one of your kids in there lol.

My bilge fan did the same thing. Ended up being my fuse in my engine compartment that runs it. The fuse and connections were corroded. Check that fuse to see if you have power through it on both sides with a meter. If thats not it i say go up to the switch, all else fails spin the blade by hand with the switch on and see if you have a flat spot on the brushes of the motor.

OEM Fuel gauge can be repaired from Fiara Beede for $100. Mine was already replaced with a aftermarket which will not work without an autometer fuel bridge and custom learning. This assumes its not your sender. Ohm the sender with a full tank, should be 4ohms.

Old gauge 4-90 ohms (Full/Empty)
New Gauges 30-240ohms (Full/Empty)

Not to be confused with automotive which work off the exact opposite scale of 90-0. No gauge on this planet will fit and work correctly without the use of an Autometer fuel bridge. Check my posts in other forums. The fuel bridge is an awesome product and its $80, you can use ANY GAUGE. With our senders ohms you can use the custom program (A = Learning) and have it learn full and empty. In my case i filled my tank, ohm reading was 4ohms. Learned that reading, then when it came time for empty. I inserted a 90ohm fuse in place of the signal wire. This was so i didnt have to pull my sender and move the float to learn empty (per the instructions). Very simple to install and figure i share that trick to save you time

If you just change the gauge and you plug it in and if your tank is full of gas it will look like your new gauge is reading correct. Until you use up your entire tank and the gauge will still read a tick above 1/2.

Thanks. I contacted fiara about the gauge and waiting to hear back from them. I cleaned the battery connections and tighten and checked all fuses. Worked great yesterday so hopefully that was it.
Noticed that around the rub rail there was a gap most of the way around. Filled that in with silicon to see if that helps with the water coming in.
Will update after silicon cures and I can spend a day on the water.
Anyone tried to pull a wakeboard? Tried yesterday and maybe it’s the supercharger but just too sluggish on the takeoff. Going to check my wear ring but without the wakeboard seems to do good on the hole shot.

I pull wakeboards, tubes with 2 people (adults) on them…etc. You shouldn’t have a problem. I barely go to 1/4 throttle. Maybe your charger is not making boost or like you mentioned your wear ring is worn? There should be more than enough power even with 1 engine. My 210hp challenger 1800 would pull the same.
