I i have just bought a 2015 gtr215 a week ago and havent been out on water yet due to the cold weather here.
Now today i did an oil level check while it was level on the trailer and it was just above the minimum mark.
I had a look in the manual and did the same level check after i ran it with the hose attached for about a minute then shut down and waited a few minutes. The oil was now well below the min mark. I checked the level several times figuring it might come up when it settled in the pan. Nope it stayed below minimun. So i added about 2-3 dl of xps semi syntetic and its now just between minimum and half.
Is this normal?
Should i add more?
Ill be checking tomorrow without fireing the thing up to see if its above the first check again..
Any adwise to a first time pwc owner?

To low and to high are both issues. I check mine before I go out. So they have sat in the garage sometimes for weeks. It will be at its highest point after it sits. I keep mine at it or JUST below the top mark. Once it is running it would be in the middle. To high and it creates crank case pressure and the pistons hit the oil and you lose noticeable performance.

not only does the piston hit the oil if it's too high, it pushes oil past the pistons into the cylinders and will smoke and have poor performance. I've seen plugs dripping with oil before. mid dipstick is a good place to be.

general rule of thumb for me...

Either on a level trailer or on the water...run the ski for 30sec(or longer in the water)....let sit for 30sec...check dipstick...I'm aiming for halfway between the bends.

Too high of an oil level can actually cause an engine to stall.

Ask me how I know....

Hey Mate,

I noticed this too on my ski.

Things to be mindful of. Read the manual when it comes to checking the oil level as there is a special way to do it. Roughly you have to run the engine at no less than 4000rpm for 10secs approx. The reason for this is oil settles in the PTO housing and to release back into pan/oil holder you need RPM above 4000 to do this. I did this and since my oil levels are always constant. I do notice when I don't do a proper run after flushing and note the oil level lower than normal as oil will still be in PTO housing.

I'm new to PWC as well and you learn heaps as you go along....

Hope this helps. It's a rough idea of what I have done and seems to work. As always though read the manual and follow in detail or ask your nearest dealer.

This is WRONG for checking oil. You do this when changing the oil only, not for checking oil. Please reread your manual. To check engine oil when ski is level, let IDLE for at least 30 seconds(on hose or in water, should already be up to op temp), let SIT for at least 30 seconds, then check dipstick.

You are running the engine oil very low if you are following the oil change procedure before you check.
