I have a speedster 150 2010. After I run the boat for about 15 or 20 min and the motor is hot when I go to start the boat it performs one rotation and then pauses for about 2 seconds and then finishes cranking over. If i open the motor cover and let the motor cool about 30 min it will crank normal again. Talking with a local tech they say there is no issue and i shouldn't be concerned. I have replaced solenoid, starter, battery and checked the charging system. I am running an Interstate deep cycle battery. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Any thoughts on what the issue might be? It certainly is heat related. I have attached a zip file with a video of the start.

I am going to have to check this the next time I go out.. Very rarely does the engine get turned off once I am out and about.. Today, however, I anchored and did some fishing.. Being the worried guy that I am when I anchor I turn the battery switch to off just to make sure there is nothing taking power.. we had the boat anchored for about 45-60 minutes.. When I went to turn it back on i hit the start button and nothing happened.. turned and looked at my girlfriend with a "oh sh#$" look.. Thankfully I hit the start button again and it turned on.. However I do think I have the same issue.. When I came back into the ramp I tied up the boat and had to get my truck.. when i hit the start button it sounds like it starts to turn then pauses and then finishes turning over.. Again I will double check but I do recall there being a small pause.. I have a 2010 speedster 150 w/ 155 motor.. I have owned since new and had all the proper services.. boat only has 17hrs on here as of today.. I don't think its anything new.. I think it has always been like that since the first day I have had it..

I am actually on my 3rd battery. The original Power Source, an AutoZone crank battery and now the deep cycle Interstate. Both the Power Source and AutoZone would drain petty quick if I cranked a few times. The Interstate seems to do better, but I do still have the delay as in the video. With a volt meter on the battery during the delayed crank my voltage does drop to about 11v from 12.75v. It is nice to here others with the issue. My boat was new in November and has done it since. I think I have 50 hours on it, the hour meter also does not work correctly. About every 2 to 5 hours it goes up one hour, but that is another issue.

sounds to me like your original battery was no good and you should never use a deep cycle battery as a start battery. they do not have enough cranking amperage for a starter and a hot engine takes more amperage to start than a cold engine. i suspect this is why your start issue is when hot.

I totally agree. Get a good starting battery and i bet it works just fine. IF you want to really make sure its no longer a problem, keep the deep cycle as a 2nd battery and install a starting battery. With both and combo switch, your problem will be solved. the whole job will cost you about $200.

Speaking of the battery, does the battery charge as soon as the engine is running (like in a car) or do I have to keep fully charged spare? I have 2011 Speedster 150. Thanks.

I have a hard time believing that 3 batteries all will not work in this boat, the first 2 were 1000 cranking batteries. The deep cycle was recommend by the SeaDoo tech.

Aldo, double check your battery cables. Look for split wires or bad spots, especially the ground. Check it good at both ends.

I have the same problem. Mine was new in June 2012. I first took it back to the dealer thinking the battery was bad from sitting around in the show room for 2 years. They checked the charging system said it was fine recharged the battery and said it was good. I go from dealer to Lake and after two or three stops to swim and ski same thing happens. The dealer then changed the battery. The next time on the Lake same thing. So i put it on trickle charger fully charge and go to the lake and same thing. This boat has 17hours on it. Started doing this after only two hours on it. I only have the radio on while motor running. I use the power shut off switch when engine off. Any more ideas out there. Should I switch to Dual optima battery at $280.00. I would hate to spend the money and it not work.

RFoster130 has got it right, it dont matter how many batteries your running. If you have a bottleneck in your electrical system from loose or damaged battery cables you wont have as much power at your starter. Check the cables as he suggests and also end to end see if any of your cables are hot after cranking your motor over. Something is loose or pinched.

Wow this is not good news, specially if your in the middle of nowhere on a lake fishing, almost same thing happened to me with my new 2011, I anchored it went swimming, came back like 30 minutes later, nothing happened, then I started freaking out too (looked at my girlfriend, oooss, it's the reason I sold my old boat and bought new), anyways after reading the manual I didn't put my key all the way in.

I noticed that the dealer put in the battery when I purchased it, what batteries come new with the boat? I need to double check, but a setup like rfoster sounds great, never thought that a new boat would need such a thing..

I am having the same issue with my 2007 150. When the engine gets hot it has a hard time turning over. When it cool it starts right up.
I changed the battery and had the same issue. A friend told me to put a DC clamp on amp meter to see how may amps the starter was pulling. My next step was to change my starter, but may start off with changing the wires first to make sure its not the cause of the issue. Once I get a DC clamp on amp meter I will post how may amps my starter is pulling.
