2006 Speedster 4TEC Ski Shaft Capacity

How much can I pull using the ski shaft rope mount. That is what it is called in the parts manual on the body page... #32. It looks like it is in a metal tube and attaches below in a metal plate. I read several entries pro and con about using the wake tower for the pull behinds so I ended up attaching the rope to one of the U shaped attachments on the back....not ideal...rope goes under water and it is not centered.

What is the capacity for pulling using the ski shaft? Do they ever break from too much weight? Can I pull 3 kids...more?

I thought about making a 3-point harness to go between the 2 U bolts and the ski shaft.

Thank you, Michael

I feel comfortable towing 2 tubes and full size adults behind my boat with the ski pylon (I don't have wake board tower). Never had a problem, just need to drive responsibly and not let any slack in the rope that might snap the tubes violently. If you do happen to snap the rope at speed you could bend the ski pylon. I have also towed skiers and such with no problem. I have the smaller engine so I am limited to 2 regular size tubes, but if you have the larger HP engine you could probably tow up to 3 tubes provided they are smaller children. You will find there is not much room on the pylon for more than about 3 ropes any way.

If you decide to tow from the two mooring hooks at the back of the boat there are specialty ropes and swivels that attach to the hooks and keep the towables centered behind the boat. They also sell special inflatable balls that go in between the boat and the tube to keep the rope out of the wake. Visit a site like overtons and take a look at what is available.

If you are concerned about the ski pylon being too weak, there was a member some time ago that could retrofit the hollow pylon with a solid tube that could handle much more abuse.
