Hi all,

I bought a 06 speedster 200, 310 HP at the end of last summer. Only tops out at 45mph (GPS certified), based upon what I have read, most people reach a top speed of 55mph for this model. I bought it anyway because other than that it runs well and was priced right. Now that I am getting ready for the next season what should I be checking to get that extra 10mph out of it?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

I agree speedster 32940, I'm hoping some people can give some tips as to what I should check out. I used it regularly all of August and some in Sept. before winterizing her and she ran and sounded fine-it just doesn't go any faster than 45mph.

Should I only be checking out the wear rings/impellers, or are there other areas I should check out as well?

I have an 04 with 310hp also and my speedo also only goes up to 45-48mph but never confirmed with GPS...granted I have always had the boat loaded with minimum 4 adults!! Dont think you would get up to 55mph since it is a 20ft boat that is fairly heavy!!

Can't help you on the mechanical part much / what to look for. Mine is also a 310hp and with the bimini top up, full tank of gas & 4 people, we've hit 53 mph on the GPS, and probably had a little more to go if I left it at WOT for a while longer. I would be very disappointed with mid 40's.

What did your speedo read??

I will also need to look into things...I have read that on the 04's they used a plastic pump which had the tendency of going out of round, this could be fixed by going with a stainless steel wear ring....maybe that's causing the slower speeds??

I was looking at the GPS readout at that particular time (and holding on like hell) but at more sane speeds the speedo & GPS have pretty consistently been very near each other. I understand that in other boats that is not the case, but at least in my situation the speedo is pretty close to accurate.

Sounds like a reasonable place to start. Good luck with it!

I have read the same thing about the 04 and the plastic pump. I talked to a local guy who had an 04 who changed it to the 05. He had to do it himslef as the seadoo shops refused. The guy over at jetboat.net (Gregz) also has an 04 and changed his as well.

My speedo was right on with the gps.

Well I have heard that most Speedster 310's hit 50-55, but have heard from a few claiming only 45. Maybe I will check out the wear rings and impellors and if they r fine just leave it alone.

Just replaced both wear rings and took my speedster out today, half tank of gas, my wife and I with our 2 kids plus bimini top up, little chop with head wind we got 51 mph on the GPS.

My wear rings have some scrapes in them and the impellors don't look the best. I think this is why I am only getting 45 MPH. Will be replacing at the end of the season...
