Hi I am new to the forum so overlook my ignorance. My Buddy has a 2005 GXI RFI (I think) His son was riding the jetski and said it acted like it run out of gas. The jet ski had gas and oil in it and they could not get it start again. They took it to the sea doo place and they said they pulled the plugs and found metal in them. They recommended replacing with a remanufactured motor. They said they would do it for $3000 to $3500 is this a good price? I have freshened up the top end of my suzuki quadracer and that is about the extent of my two stroke experience. Is a Jet ski s tough thing to rebuild? I have no experience with the bottom end either. Thanks for any help.

First Thing is to do a compression test if there was metal on one of the plugs it could be a hole starting in the top of the piston. Or it could be the dealer just wants to sell you a new rebuild. If indeed there is no compression in one bore and at least 140 lb. in the other you have to decide do I just put one new piston and ring set in or rebuild the whole motor. If the unit has low hr.s on it chances are the bottom end is good and any metal would have been blown out the exhuast then I would just replace the one piston. If this is the route you take you still have to figure out why the bore leaned out to the point it blew a hole in the piston it could be A-wrong plug type B-carb set wrong or C-just had it pinned to the bar and cold siezed it in this case both bores need to be replaced so at this point a new rebuild is the best. The third case is when you just start a cold motor up and give it all it's got before it warms up but again this is all just my opinion with out looking at the motor.:)
