I have had my 2004 Seadoo sportster for a few months and the engine has been running fine. Last weekend I had a check engine light come on after a morning of tubing and water sports. I shut the engine down and turned it back on and the light went away. I was able to get back to the dock and I let the boat sit for awhile. I tried it again later and it was fine for at least 40 minutes then the light came on again. I don't notice any performance issues when the light comes on but there is a 2 second beep then the check engine light comes on. Over the course of the weekend the light came on four times. I have a few questions. I am bringing my boat to the dealer for them to look at it but are these error codes saved in the computer. When I called them they told me there are hard faults and temporary faults. Is my error temporary as the light goes away when I turn off the boat. They said that only hard faults are stored. If I take it there and they don't find any error codes will they be able to check the engine for possible issues such as a faulty sensor. I would hate to get it back and have the issue continue to occur. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks

Umm .. with my candoo scanner I see error code occurrances. So not sure what your dealer really means. As in when a fault occurs it gets stored in ecu and displays "active" if check engine light is on. Or "occurred" if check engine light isn't on. There are a few BRP techs on the site hopefully they can chime in and maybe help you out.

If I understand you correctly when the check engine light comes on all faults are recorded in the computer as well as faults that occur when the light does not come on? Is this correct.

Yup that's what I've observed. For example, on a gti I look after it had a flakey crank sensor that would cause a no start. I would get an error code "Crank Sensor Not Plausible ... or something like that" can't quite remember. Anyway the problem was intermittent, When the ski would work the check engine light wasn't on. But when I hook up my scanner I saw that "occurance" replaced the crank sensor and the problem was gone.

when mine did that it was the voltage regulator- replaced and solved. I think heat had something to do with the timing.
