ok first of i just recently purchased two seadoo pwc, a 2004 seadoo GTI LE and a 2002 seadoo GTX DI. i tried starting the 04 GTI LE and all it does is barely turn over like a dead battery. these skis have been sitting unused for quiet a while. previous owner says it runs. any way i put battery to charge i tried it again today and now it cranks like its stuck then jus stops and the starter sounds like it continues straining. then when i try again it jus beeps and a red light near the oil symbol illuminates and everytime i push the start button it jus beeps. so i pulled out the lanyard and put it back in and it allows to try to crank then beeps. what do you think this can be. now on the 02 he said he was using it and it jus shut down on him and didnt start back up so he jus left it sitting. he claims to say it ran low on oil what could this mean a new motor? or should i try starting this one as well. im thinking on buying new batteries but dont know the specs to order a marine battery from my employer. any and all help is greatly appreciated.

If they have been sitting for any time at all, you will need a new battery.

Pull the plugs, do they crank? If so, better?

FYI, Do not jump the ski with anything else that is running. For example, you can jump it with your car, but the car can NOT be running. Also do not use a jump box and or a charger while the battery is connected to the ski.

will try that tomorrow. do you know the battery specs? to get a new marine battery ordered. did not try the 02 cause certain parts are off like they were repairing it. and it doesnt have a battery.

Ok I took off the plugs and it swings like a champ. This may be a stupid question cause I really never road a jet ski that has neutral forward and reverse. Does the ski have to be in neutral to turn over? If so my shifter looks like its stuck anyway I can do it manually. Thanx for your help. What would be my next step to try?

Nope. It is a manual lever and has no bearing on it.

You have a bad battery, bad cables or connections, or weak starter.

Get the battery load tested and post the results.

Used the car battery. It swung like a champ buy didn't turn over and start. Should I be hearing a fuel pump? Am I doing something wrong? I pulled the choke and still nothing should I have water plugged into it?

Previous owner stated he changed the system so I have to mix the fuel and oil together then put it str8 into the fuel tank could this be true? What 2 cycle oil is best?

Yes,, could be true, but I don't know the correct answer. LouDoo will..

Test for spark now that you have it cranking. If you have spark, put a small amount of fuel/oil into the spark plug hole, put the plugs back in, crank it and see what happens.

I want to preface my answer by saying this answer only applies to a carbed ski. If the ski is RFI or DI the ski should NOT be using pre-mix in any case.

If the ski is carbed and has been converted to premix, I believe it's a 717, you should be using an API-TC mineral or synthetic blend 40 or 50:1, also you need to make sure the rotary valve is being drip fed from either the from the oil tank or an oil loop.

I briefly read over this thread and the problem to me sounds like either a weak battery, or a high resistance connection with the battery cables, starter cable, or ground cable(s).

ok its a 717. I have no idea what he claimed he changed or converted for me to pre mix the fuel and pour str8 into tank. unless I trace the lines and see what goes where. it has spark but looks a bit faint. going to purchase new plugs tomorrow and try it with a bit of fuel in the cylinder. I ruled out a bad battery as I tried with a car battery and it swings like a champ. battery cables look a bit worn so im gonna make new ones at work tomorrow. its a ski that's been sitting and previous owner couldn't give me much info. only that he put performance parts tested after he did and jus sat there every since. as for my reverse cable that was seized and broken. if I disconnect will it shift with water pressure?

anxious to get at least one up and running and into the water!! could any of you pm me to talk about the other ski that ones more complicated.

I don't want to appear to be a smart ass or harsh, but if you don't know, how do you expect us to know? After all we can't see the ski, maybe you could take some pictures.

ok i just tested by taking plugs off and putting premix down the cylinder and it fired up but smoking a lot. what could this be. it shut down after I let off of the throttle. haven't gotten new plugs yet. busy at with work. now I know she turns on!!! at least! steering is stiff doesn't want to turn why is this?

I am a bit lost with all the posts I have been following. Catch me up a bit. Your title says WON'T TURN OVER, but in the posts above you actually had it running.. So what is the present issue?

first it wasn't. then u told me pull plugs and put a bit of fuel in cylinder I did and it fired up but died. tried again but had to keep giving gas to keep it on. pulled plugs after and the are extremely wet and black looking and it smokes like im fogging insects.

So it will run of you put fuel/oil into the spark plug holes. But only long enough to burn off the fuel you put in? Correct?

And, will it crank with the START button or only when you jump the solenoid?

starts with start button beeps twice as it should. yes it fired when I put the fuel in cylinder then It shut off within seconds. tried again with the choke and a little throttle and it started but had to keep giving throttle for it to stay on.

Ok,, There is a pulse line that goes from the crankcase to the fuel pump on the carb, is this line on and in good shape?
