Hello. (1 season owner, noobie) Had our 2004 GTI rfi out on the river and my son went too close to shore, probably two feet of water and I think sucked up some mud. It stalled out but started right back up but then it wouldn't go over like 5 or 6 mph, when throttle was pushed any higher it would just rev, high RPMs. I went easy and drove it at about 5 mph back to the ramp, got it out of the water and seen nothing in the impeller stuck.

Also wear ring looks good, and gap between impeller and wear ring was less than 1.00 mm as shop manual says.
I took some pictures of the impeller. I don't know if it looked like that before since I never examined impeller since purchase. I wouldnt imagine them dings in the impeller would cause it to not go over 6 yet with high RPMs? Thank you for any input!

Run water thru it on trailor,,,is your pisser working,,,sounds like cooling system blockage,

Yeah I hooked the hose up and ran it at about 3500 rpm for about 2 minutes as the shop manual says. Water was coming out the pisser strong. I'll probably take it out on the water in a couple hours and see if it's doing the same thing. If it is I guess my next step would be to pull the pump, impeller and drive shaft out?

If you're getting high RPMs but no go, I can't see how it's engine related. Either your pump or driveshaft or PTO is messed up bad. Even big gaps in the impeller should get you above 5. At 1mm clearance your wear ring is fine.

Your impeller is quite chewed up, especially on one leading edge, but it should still go way more than 5. Your holeshots will not be as "punchy", but that's not what you describe. I don't think impeller or wear ring is your issue unless there a rock or a huge chunk of mud stuck in the middle where we can't see.

GTI had reverse. Your reverse isn't partially deployed, is it? That'd put it in neutral and direct the jet downwards, giving you the symptoms you describe.

If it's not that, I'd pull the pump and check the driveshaft. Maybe your splines are sheared. Inspect both sides of the driveshaft.

When you give it gas in the water, what does the water around and behind the seadoo look like? Videos on trailer and in water would help if pulling the pump and driveshaft don't show an obvious problem. Does the engine sound normal or do you hear any whining or grinding sounds?

While you have the driveshaft apart, get pictures of the carbon ring and stainless hat. Do you see any leaking from the carbon ring and boot while it's sitting in the water and off?

I am going to have to re-read what you just wrote tomorrow. I am so happy to get such a great response! I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge man!!!
