2004 gti le rfi won't start

It has been under a carport for 10 months. On battery charger for two days. Battery is two years old. It has only a buzz sound in the engine compartment and a red light shows on the dash panel. I have no manual to refer to for checking what that indicates. Around 20 total hours in use. Engine never turns over, only the buzz is heard.
