Hey all, I am hoping someone can help me with a awful issue...
Was out all day on it. Flung myself off it (did not capsize) and when i got back on (5 minutes later) it was dead. No reaction to lanyard. No beeps, no display, nothing. I tried my second "beginner" lanyard and got the same result. Read up on some trick about pressing the start/stop button 5 times.. tried that and got no response. Its acting like the battery is dead but when i tested it it seemed ok. Checked all fuses in the MPEM and all are good. Checked electrical box fuse as well. Cleaned up the lanyard and post and still have the issue...

Im going to get the battery tested right now but I fail to believe a battery can die in 5 minutes between running like new and giving absoloutely no power. Any t houghts?!

sound dumb but have had it happen to me. were you low on gas and just so happened that atm you needed to switch to reserve?

nope. full tank. plus its FI anyways, so there is no reserve switch. Battery restested and is completely fine. still unsure where to proceed from here short of tearing it all apart.... Is there anything that would keep you from entering th DESS Diagnostic mode (other than a dead battery)? Is it really as simple as just pressing the Start/Stop button 5 times while lanyard is unhooked?

ok so when you plug the lanyard in no beeps no nothing?

I would check all wires coming off the battery and make sure you got good current and no wires are broken and make sure no grounds came off.

nope, no sign of electricity anywhere.. I flew off doin about 45 mph so it was a good jolt im sure.. I bought a Multimeter today to begin diagnosing but im not exactly sure how to use the thing as there are roughly 15 different settings to put it on...

I plan to start taking the handlebar area apart first... any suggestions or help on th emultimeter is appreciated..

thanks!!

ok, just got a crash course in using the multimeter so im good there... If I want to measure the current on the wires what should I expect to read? Would anything > 0 be good or is there a target value for the measured current on a wire?

any idea what this could be? went through it last night and the wires look great. fuses are fine... whats the most expensive thing it could be? Cuz its probably that and ill start there :-P

UPDATE....

So I gave up and took it into the dealership.. Bad Cutoff Relay I am told. $70 for the part and $90 for labor.

i cant find any posts about a cutoff relay, is there another name?

The cut off relay is what stops the battery discharging when the key is removed, could be faulty, or could be hiding something more sinister in the mpem.
