hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knows much about this ski? i am buying one this weekend its a 2002 seadoo rx di really good shape and has a brand new motor with all paperwork, i am use to the carbarated xps and stuff like that is this ski just as good or anything i should watch out for getting the fuel injected? thanks

DI verses RFI?

Yes, be careful. Why is the owner getting rid of it? These skis are both the fastest running injected engines but also, one of the most worst nightmares when something is wrong with it. All but impossible to troubleshoot.

Use the search engine above and put in DI or 951 DI and see what you come up with. This is the most complex of all injection systems. The RFI, Rotax fuel injected, is the easiest to maintain and is more trouble free because it works off the low pressure side of the engine. The DI uses a two stage injection on the high pressure side with a secondary component part, the air compressor. It's geared to the crankshaft.

If I were looking at this model, I'd be hard pressed to have a lot of faith in it, unless it was new and you knew all the history behind it.

Rx di

Thanks for all the info, he said he is getting rid of because his son went to college now and don't use it he said that they flipped it and when they did they fliped it back wrong way and screwed up engine he said he has all the paperwork got a brand new engine from sbt and got a new fuel pump to tge ski looks mint and has 90 total hours and 8 on new engine. Engine and everything looks clean and I got him down to 3200 for just ski do you personal think this ski will cause more problems or pleasure thanks.

Hard to say....?

Its hard to say. Just because you roll it over the wrong way, doesn't mean you have to buy a new engine. It just means you ingested water and need to clean it out before rust sets in.

The guy is honest it seems. But, I can't say one way or the other, if your going to have a problem or not. It's just the inherited design of the direct injected engines that are either great or broke. There is no way to know which you are going to get. With the problems you've already listed (which you don't mention the compressor being replaced), I'd be very hesitant about it. That's just my personal feeling. Yeah, the price is pretty good. I'd say your on a 50:50 with this one. It could go either way.

Dang well okay thanks for all the info I dunno if I want to chance it now I found a 01 rx but it is just carbs ya know so I am not sure which one to go with he said they had to replace engine cause when his cousin flipped it bk over she started it and drove to shore n screwed it all up he said new engine and oil pump and also new jet drive I believe. Can you still put a oil block off kit on this machine? Or will that help at all thanks

Electronics and compressor?

If it was started back up without being properly done, then I'd def be worried about the compressor. You have not mentioned that it was replaced so if it got water sucked up in it, it could also be bad. The electronics that drive this motor and fuel system are really tough to work through.

I know injection is more fuel efficient but I'd have to stick with the carbs since I know they can easily be cleaned and adjusted. I wouldn't worry about the oil pump. I'm not to sure why it was replaced because a little water should not have hurt it. I dont' suggest premix in a motor meant for variable injection ratios. The baby would smoke like a mosquito truck while sitting near a pier or marina. You don't want to look bad do ya?....

I don't like giving advice on telling people which skis to buy or not buy. There may be members here who will disagree with me. But, I bet there will be a bigger majority of them that agree. Especially the ones that owned the DI's......... Oh, this baby does have the largest of the 2 stroke engines in it, the 951cc.

Okay thanks man would the 01 I found be just as fast it has same engine and all just it's blue instead of blk n yellow n it has the carbs. Thanks for all the info I just don't want to prob

Would there be any other differences between the 01 and 02 besides the direct injection. I am thinking about this 01 has 158hrs total and 50 is on brand new motor, it has the carbs and looks really clean to. Thanks

Not so fast....

No, it's going to be a tad bit slower but I don't think you'll be disappointed. The 951 in a sports model ski is fast. I have the 3 seater, 1997 GTX and I peaked at 60 on my dream-o-meter. But, I'm usually in the mid to upper 50's. So, that 951 should easily be in the low to mid 60's.

But, to be sure your not getting someone elses headache, it's worth it.

158 hours?...

That isn't really a huge amount of time considering the age. If it's in great shape and the motor compartment looks good, I think you might find yourself happier with one that will require less maintenance and is more dependable than the DI motors. I'm still not gonna knock that motor because I did some time back and was informed by members that had them, said they ran like a banshee. So, if you buy it and maintain it on from the beginning, it may be a good motor. But there has just been so many that have had and continue to have problems with it.

Good luck!......

Problems with my 2002 SeadDoo RX DI

Hey,

I just recently purchased a 2002 SeadDoo RX DI and its starting to give me problems. The machine is in good condition and it only has 78 hours on it. It seems to keep burning out spark plugs as soon as I start running it. Within a few min., the sparkplug is black and the seadoo dies on me... Any suggestions?

Thanks

Eric

Same problem

I have the same problem. my plugs get wasted so fast, it is because of a bad design of air intake. if you get water in the engine compartment and the air baffles in the back suck it up and the water goes strait into the motor. thus fouling plugs. only way to fix it is take off the baffles or never get any water in there which is next to impossible. otherwise the ski runs great. i have a skat-trak swirl impeller and racing intake grate (Turbo design) and i hit high 70's to mid 80's.
