I have a 2002 Seadoo GTX 4-tec with a bad starter solenoid part 278001767 . Does anyone know where to get one or how to retrofit a newer solenoid to work properly . Thanks in advance , Dr B .

Dr B,,,that was a one off i believe for 2002,,abterrible idea,,,,and there is a thread somewhere they re-wired in a normal selenoid,,,I don't have the link unfortunately,,,but it is out there somewhere in internet land,,,hopefully someone on here has the link

Thanks , and yes it is a one year only sealed unit . Thank you for your answer I've been looking for about 6 weeks! I think it's reprehensible that Seadoo stops making parts for their products . Seems like a missed opportunity since the older Seadoo would likely need more repairs . Thanks again.

Okay,,,tried to find it could not, if you find the wiring diagram,,,you can work from there,,,that gray plug connector not sure how many pins,,,at least one is black ground,,,and another is yellow/red,,and another is red from the rectifier which is at the front behind the front storage bin,,that is standard on all seadoos,,,it comes from the start stop switch via the mpem,,,can you tell me the colours of the wires in the gray plug,,,then you can work backwards,,
,hhmm,,,one of the wires will be red,,that will charge the battery,,,and will come from your rectifier which is at the front of your machine behind the bin..be fused to protect the charging system,,i think,,,,something like that,,,that is also standard on all models,,the other fuse i believe protects the selenoid,,not sure,,,wiring diagram will tell you
You would think that you could buy a standard cheap selenoid,,,remove the black ground and yellow/red,from the gray plug,,,,connect those 2 to the pins in the plug of the selenoid,,,make a red positive cable going from the hot side (left pin) of the selenoid to the starter, and then make a cable from the battery to the power side of the selenoid (right pin) , the right pin on it should always have battery voltage to it,
You can see what i am getting at,,,i don't have the diagram,,,but wiring will essentially be the same,,,
So you can buy a cheap even lawn mower /tractor selenoid,,for 20 bucks,,,they are all the same,,,buy some red cable,,cut proper length,,,crimp proper terminals on them, and make a test case scenario, bypass the start stop switch and pmem alltogether,,,,,you could be the start stop switch,,,attach the cables,,,put black ground to the ground of the battery,,and then touch the positive side of the relay
to your battery,,,it should turn the starter over
I think you may get the hang of it,,
Love a challenge,,,and I am far far far away from being an electrical genius,,,that relay was IMPOSSIBLE to find,,and was hundreds!
Let us know,,,someone out here knows exactly how to do this,,,it seems like you can do it for less than 50 bucks,,,you know,,,cable,,connectors,,some red, yellow,,black wire,, crimping tool,,,
Also,,just have a look at on 03 or newer model,,,the wires will have the same function,,,the fuses will be the same,,,know what i mean?

Thanks Popps , I was planning on cutting the wires on the existing solenoid and putting a 30 amp inline fuse on both sides if I can't find the factory part. I'll let you know how it works.

Yes please let me know...i aplogize i don't know the exact wiring,,,after 20 years I should know,,, But if you go backwards,,,you should be able to wire in a cheap selenoid,

I've converted these 2002 systems to the standard solenoid type for the last 15 years or so. All you have to do is use the 2003-2005 system. There is nothing special about that solenoid. You can crimp on connectors and buy the newer solenoid on ebay for $10. You will need the two 30 amp fuses but any inline will work.
