Hello everyone,

Looking for some help. I purchased my 2002 Sea Doo Utopia 185 with the 240 Mercury M2 EFI 2 stroke about 4 months ago. Worked fine up until about 3 weeks ago. It works just fine at idle speed, but when I give it more throttle the revs have been very high, and having trouble getting on plane. When I have roughly 4 people on the boat it eventually gets on plane after about 1-2min throttling up very slowly, and revving at 4800-5500 rpms to get over (Planes at just after 10mph). After that, it’s 5500 rpms + and can get it to WOT. But when I have more than about 4 people on it, it’s stuck at like 10pmh and won’t get on plane at all and revs at like 5000-5500rpm, anything after thatI can hear the engine revving but I have almost no power (Starts slowing down). I check the intake and there’s no debris/blockage, also looked at the impeller and it seemed to be fine but honestly didn’t look very closely at it, just noticed there was no dents/cracks/chips. Any ideas in what the problem might be?

Also, when I had just me and my buddy I found that sometimes it would take off right away, and the tachometer and speedometer worked fine, but when it struggles to get over plane the speedometer is not working completely.

Any advise is greatly appreciated!!

It's cavitation. You are either sucking air from somewhere, or there is some damage to the pump. Since you have doing an inspection... it just needs to come apart, and everything checked.
