Wondering if I got a good buy on my 2002 Islandia?
I paid 12k, roughly 200 hours, appears to be in pristine condition (guy I bought it from had a 5 bay garage with antique cadillacs/Mercedes in what also appeared to be in mint condition). Basically it looked like he took very good care of his "toys".
What should I be cautious of mechanically? I am a first time boat owner...
How often should it be serviced, etc.?

Pros/cons to the Islandia's?

Thanks in advance folks!

No replies to this post - and I'm wondering - how many Islandia owners are there ? I just bought my 2002 islandia last year and LOVE it.

I would say treat it like all the other Merc owners, have it gone through by a dealer that has no issues with Merc Powered Sea-Doo's. I'm guessing it is a 240? Or did you get the 250 Opti?

My SeaDoo dealer keeps a merc mechanic on hand and they did all my winterization last fall. They confirmed that it looked like the previous owner changed the two major fluids in the drive train and ran the correct Quicksilver Premium Plus oil. So it was in good shape. If properly maintained, I think most will agree that the Merc engine is rock solid. If not, it can be more expensive to repair than what it is worth to keep the boat. It's sad but true from what I have seen.

I think it's the motor that a person should worry about. The boat itself is a good quality hull, and you should really have no issues if it was not run into rocks.

I did order a new intake grate for mine just a few weeks ago. I plan on installing it before I take it out again. The mercs of this vintage had the hydro-surge grate which had the potential of allowing dangerous things into the pump or breaking off tines that could cause thousands of dollars in damage to the pump. THere are only a few of these that have happened, but i figured a $70 grate was good insurance to not have that happen.

Be sure to post pics of the new baby! And pics of the first time out. Have fun!

Thanks for the replies guys (finally)!!!

Yes, it is a 240hp. What type grate did u order and from where?

Just installed hydro turf yesterday and got her cleaned up. Having it de-winterized next Monday and hopefully taking it out later next week. That hydro turf is an awesome product, no regrets.

Thanks again, I guess us islandia owners are few and far between, we need to stick together!!

I ordered my Hydro-Turf as well. It should really make the swim deck much safer and improve the overall look of the boat. I actually have an X-20, but all of us with early 2000's SeaDoos with Mercs have similar challenges.

I ordered the 6-tine aluminum Grate. The 11-tine stainless grate was considered a shallow water or rock-grate. Both provided the same amount of flow. I found a great deal on Ebay. The seller has sold each one for an offer price of $50 plus shipping. I consider that cheap insurance. Especially since I could have gotten my hand caught in the hydro-surge last year just pulling weeds out while holding my breath. Little chance, but it was there.

Here is a link to his current auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERC...at_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item1e626c30d2

It looks like he may be on his last one left. If I am not allowed to link to an ebay auction, just send me a PM for the link.
