Hello. I just bought a very clean 2002 GTI LE with 218 hours on it. It's only been run in fresh water and has never had any problems. It runs great but it tops out at 41 mph. I even checked it with GPS. I have read that it should do 48-52mph. Is 41mph right??? It has the 717 85 hp engine. Thanks. Rob.

BOATTEST.com did a test on the 110 hp, 787 equipped version...and it did 50.3 mph. I have found their site to be very accurate and give honest opinions. They don't have test data on the 85 hp version.
Given the history of owners who have reported the REAL performance, not some wish-o-meter b.s., you can expect 42 - 47 mph, depending on factors such as your weight, fuel onboard, sea conditions, etc.

Thanks. I guess it's about right then. According to my navtronics app on my iPhone I did hit 42.7 mph. I did find another person on a Google search that said his top speed was 41-42.
Thanks for your input. Rob.

No problem. Heck, I am old enough to remember when 42 mph was FAST on one of these things! It's still fun, I have a '97 GTI with the same engine and performance. It just doesn't pin your ears back like the more powerful models.
It ALSO doesn't use NEAR the fuel!

Well it's actually fast enough for me. I'm no spring chicken myself. Lol. I just wanted to make sure this thing is still running at peak performance. The guy I bought it from said it would do 48mph and he's heavier than me. Guess he was lieing.

I have a pair of 2003's w/the same engine and while I've never checked the speed (mine don't have speedometers), that seems pretty much correct. If I can remember while I'm out today, I will check it and let you know.

I put a tachometer on my '97, simply because it drove me nuts to NOT have one, and that vacant plugged hole in the dash was unattractive. Pretty simple to do, the forum folk stepped me through it.

Yea. That would drive me nuts also. I don't have any vacant plugged holes though. Speedo on the right and gas gauge on the left. My other 2 skis that I've had were all digital and actually older than my seadoo. It's odd the seadoo is analog. Oh well. I'll live.

I have a 2003 GTI and the 42mph is probably correct. This is one of the heaviest hulls they put the 720 in.
