I have a chance to buy a 2001RFI GTX and have heard that is a bad year for the RFI models because of computer problems. It has two computers that have to talk to each other for it to run good. I understand SEADOO only had a RFI engine for two years because of the problems. A mechanic that works at a SEADOO shop told me this. I was wonder has anybody else heard anything like this.

RFI problems

Sorry Glen,

I am having similar problems, mine has 170 hours and has been in the shop for a month....at a dealer no less.....trying to figure out what is wrong......rectifier..voltage regulator or magneto.......never had a minutes problem with it until this summer....it would not hold a charge....I don't know if I am being hosed or if it is that difficult to diagnose......been out of service since the end of June......there goes this summer.....thought SeaDoo was a good product up to now......

Hi Glen i have owned 3 of these in the past and they all seem to be a great ski ... i did have a problem with one of them but not the computer just a simple hose blockage to the RAVE valves... which was eventually sorted. I'd go RFI over carby any day. Carbys are a huge drama if you don't get em tuned right... injectors need cleaning and no tuning required. It all depends on how the current owner looked after the ski ad the bloke before him and so on and so forth... i've heard nothing of these models having more computer problems than usual. You need to do all the neccessary problem checks before you buy though... and if you don't know what to look for get a dealer to give it the once over he should pick up any problems in the computer with B.U.D.S. ( The software used to determine and faults with your ski). Also he can perform all the hardware tests eg compression and water pressure , he'll check the wear ring on the jet pump and listen for any unusual sounds that you or i might not pickup. There are a few checks that needs to be done. The best part of all is there are a great bunch of guys on this site only too willing to share their world of informaton on problem solving ..so.. between us we manage to get most of them solved before the dealer bends you over!! Good Luck.
