2001 Speedster Cuts Out After 15 Minutes

I am looking to buy this Speedster with the 240 EFI Merc. The seller states that it runs great for about 15 minutes and then shuts off like it is out of gas. He says when it does this, you have to wait awhile before it will start again. It sounds like an overheating problem to me, but I do not know much about these engines. Has anyone else had this problem or maybe even a solution?

I just helped a friend replace his ECM on his PWC. He had the exact same problem. He bought the whole electrical system but we just swapped the ECM and it now runs fine. If it dies but will not restart then I would say fuel but since it restarts I would lean toward electrical. He suspected the ECM got damaged when he put a charge on the battery without disconnecting the battery leads to the motor first.
