Hey everyone,

Sorta new to this forum. joined last summer and you guys helped me immensely with my 96 xp when I had a few problems with it so I thought I'd ask for some guidance and help again.

I recently found a decent 2001 RX on kijiji with a blown engine and thought it would be a fun project that wouldn't put me too far into the hole. I love my XP but it's just not what I need for my location. It's usually choppy and the XP is difficult to have two people on. It's totally do able it's just uncomfortable. So all in all I'm looking to pick up this RX to replace the XP.

The hull itself looks like its in great condition with a few extras such as handlebars and an intake grate but the engine is blown. I figured I could pick up a new 951 for a reasonable price and put it in and learn a bit as I go. I'm a mechanic by trade so I'm not stupid when it comes to engines and such.

only questions i really have are....is it a good idea and where the hell do i pick up a 951 lol. I'm in windsor, ON and would drive to pick one up. Michigan would probably be my best bet I think. Is there anywhere I can pick up a crate motor or a rebuilt in Michigan or Ontario?

Thanks in advance for all your help. hopefully this will turn into a build thread soon enough

Well you could have yours rebuilt. Full Bore is up in the north east side of Michigan. I have never used them, but they appear to be one of the three talked about on here.

Due to your location, Full Bore is probably the best bet. I would contact them BEFORE you buy the ski and see if they have one ready to go and what the price is. If it is what you want, then take your core and swap them.

JMHO.
Pull the engine and look closely at the bottom for cracks, or where a rod may have liberated itself from the crankcase. If the cases appear good, then I would send it off to be rebuilt. You can't hardly rebuild one very much cheaper than an engine shop can plus you get a no fault warranty.
I own a RX, they are a lot of fun and can easily hold two persons, but they can ride pretty rough. You will get wet as well.

The RX would make a descent 2 up ski. A GTX may even be better for 2, and you can ski behind it.

I try to pay around $600 for a 951 blown engine ski. $400 if it's total crap. $800 if it's MINT.

If you were in PA, I'd toss an engine in it, in exchange for the core and going rate of a well running RX. I have an engine I'm looking to throw in one final ski, and be done with my projects. (I'm not willing to sell separate, as I always test my installs with 1-2 tanks before selling).
