First let me start by saying thanks. This forum has provided me with tons of useful information. Even though I've only started two threads (one to say hello, and one talk about the awesome deal I got on this 2001 RX) the search feature and reading through some of the threads in the restoration and 2-stroke categories gave me most of what I needed to get my ski into good shape, and make it look a little better too.
What started out as just replacing a wear ring turned into a jet pump housing replacement (exit vanes were busted) but I couldn't stop there... I partially blame Jetskigoodies' restoration thread(s), particularly the one about the first 951, for motivating me to spend much more money than I intended to... .
I'll post a bunch of photos when I get the "after" shots done, but here's the short list of what's been done:
New jet pump housing with OEM wear ring and rebuild kit (outlet vanes broken/chipped on old housing)
New venturi cone and anti-rattle pusher + Klotz stank juice
Solas Dynafly 13/19 Impeller
New sealed AGM battery
New NGK BR8ES Plugs + 2 spares
VTS worm gear, sliding block, and motor
New VTS boot and clamps
The Trim Fix - Aftermarket VTS replacement for OEM control electronics
Black on yellow Hydro Turf (grooved) traction mats
Blackfin custom two-tone vinyl seat cover in black and grey carbon fiber pattern
Black and yellow Poppy Cover
3" Autobot vinyl decal for the nose, black
Old gas pumped out (tomorrow, have tank and transfer rig)
Bilge wash out
Inspected all fuel lines, cables, hoses
Nearly everything is complete, with only the fuel tank pump-out, hydro turf, and a wash and wax remaining. All this and I'll likely take it out for a season, then sell it (sadly), we'll see... it may be too much fun for me to let it go. I've read soooo many horror stories about the 951's to keep one that's 14 years old. After owning what were once two great cars manufactured in 1997 and 1998, I know full well what happens to rubber, plastic, and electrics after 15 years of aging, regardless of how well you maintain the vehicle. Plus, some of these new skies are pretty damn sharp.
In the meantime, thanks to those of you who gave me feedback on my other threads, and the pics will be coming soon
