So I recently purchased this boat, owner said he had it out every weekend for multiple hours at a time, it started up everytime just fine when I was inspecting it, and the first (and only) time I've had It out was a crazy experience. So it started up fine at the ramp, rode 20 miles up the river, where I turned the key off and anchored off. When I tried to start it up the battery clicked over, dead. So I got towed to a local dock resturant, where i jumped the battery off and it started up fine. In this moment i knew it was either the regulators or maybe stator. Also, the tach never worked the whole time I had it out (didnt catch if it did when I was buying the boat), and from my understanding it takes its reading from pulses off the stator. Got the boat running, headed towards the trailer and didnt even make it 10 miles back before it died while running. Battery dead again. So I have ordered new regulators, they will be here tomorrow, just really want someone like Dr. Honda to review my symptoms and provide feedback. Also what readings on what wires of the regulators i should expect. There is also a brown wire with white stripe, bullet connector just aft of regulators not hooked up to anything. Thanks in advance

Did you ever check for loose connections? There are several places to check, beginning at both battery terminals. Ground cable at the starter. Connections at the solenoid. Connections to the starter hot side. Connections inside the starter. On and on. Check output from regulators with voltmeter before throwing money at it.

If you have an old battery that has developed an internal short; it won't hold a charge and it may toast the regulators.

There should be 2 orphan wires aft of regs. See the thread "where does this hose go?"
