Nice I like it going to need lots of work but going to look damn good I got a 2000 Xpl love it. Riva racing sponsons for a seadoo spark work well on it I have them on mine

I used the rear hole and had to drill 2 more. I had to fill 3 old holes. I filled them temporarily with Apoxsee but I'm going to fix it with glasswork

Ouch! Sorry Joe it doesn't sound or look like those are anything but the wrong sponsons for the XPL. I'm not coming down on you I just don't want any future readers to go drilling and filling extra holes under the waterline. As 1 of 5 said, there are XPL appropriate sponsons out there. The size and the angle are different(backing plate is cut in a V shape). They are still available from Worx and Beach house made a nice set.
 
Right but you said they "work well" and I have to respectfully disagree. The backing plates have the wrong angle and are too wide, holes have to be drilled and filled under the waterline, the fins are too big and shaped incorrectly, and all adjust-ability seems to be lost because if you try to get it off the lowest setting they would hit the underside of the rub rail.
 
It is. I'm pleasantly surprised it's buffing out as nicely. A few hours with maguire's ultra cut compund, and an orbital goes a long way. It's nice and easy tho. Not even leaning on the pad.
 
This is gonna be a stocker for sale in the spring. Already had the cylinders machined and cases cleaned. Will be going together with oem crank and counter-balancer, and sbt pistons.
 
Nice work. Amazing how tough gel cote is . And thick! I have sanded with 600 da and buffed out. Loose those ugly traction matts. Hydroturf!
 
Just curious why you are going with OEM crank and balancer then skimping on SBT pistons?
 
The rotating assembly was already intact and assembled with oem components. Just had it waiting for a project. Had a set of cylinders laying around also. Knowing that this is going to be a stock application ski (I have two other heavily modified 951's) sbt is a fine application. IMO, SBT is fine for stock set-ups. My intent is to build and sell the ski and any riding I do on it will be leisure cruising if it doesn't sell. I've always said that there is a reason SBT is able to provide engines and stand behind them with a 2 year no fault warranty...

Ok, if I were building it to sell I would do the same thing. I thought you bought the OEM bottom end then were doing the SBT pistons. For just flipping it I agree SBT top and bottom would be fine. If I were building it to run hard OEM all the way.

SBT is able to offer the no fault warranty because of volume not necessarily because of making the finest quality parts but we all have our opinions. I say run whatever you are most comfortable with.
 
What issues have you had with WSM? I have been using them since the 90's without a single issue. Except for their rotary valves and carb kits.
