2000 XP bogging down at 4000-500RPM (NEED HELP!)

I am having trouble with my 2000 XP. I was on the water last weekend and the XP was running fine
until I would get to around 5000 RPM's and then the XP started to bog down and rev up, bog down
and rev up, and continue doing this until I was finally able to get it to shore and trailer it.

One of the things I did do different is use 87 octane fuel in place of the usual 91, but I don't think
this would have caused this to happen.

Can anyone provide any help or info as to what may be causing my XP to do this?

Thank you for the info! Greg

For the extra couple of buks per tank, run the 91, these motors have high compression, also, carefully inspect/clean your rave valves, maybe there sticking. You can find a microfiche out there for help, and just recheck your connections and filters.
