I've been trying to figure out whats wrong with my ski for some time now. Everything has been fine for 16 years. Never had an issue. Rebuilt the carb every few years. Also replaced the gray tempo fuel lines a few years ago too.

Was riding and all of a sudden the ski bogged down and died. Sounded like a fuel delivery issue to me so I rebuilt the carb, tested for leaks in the fuel system, replaced the fuel selector, replaced the fuel baffle unit too. Still nothing.

For the past 2 years, my ski has had a hard time recognizing my key. It takes a while for it to register and finally beep twice. I figured it wouldn't hurt to replace the DESS post.

As I'm troubleshooting this "fuel delivery problem," I get 2 beeps which is normal, then after cranking the motor a few times and not starting I'm getting a short single beep every time I touch the key to the post. I mean every single time that key even softly touches the post. Doesn't have to be fully in. I tried both DESS posts and same thing.

I looked in the shop manual and I can't find anything on this.

Is my MPEM going bad? Is this thing not starting because of something electrical rather than fuel, spark compression.

Attached is a video from last weekend before I had this single beep problem and was thinking it was fuel delivery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think your RV gear is toast, as the intake manifold gas is spouting back, as timing rv plate is incorrect now.

It is a brass helical gear that opposes the crankshaft gear. It purpose is to turn the splined shaft the RV plate rides.

and the 787 engine is same. Remove the RV cover and hand turn the PTO at engine rear back & forth, watch-feel the rv plate to understand if the gear is bad. There are other vids you can watch on youtube.

There are many factors that are contribulatory, such as water in fuel, old bad gas, air leaks, water intrusion, failure to fog engine, as just to name a few factors. The 720 is a noisey engine and vibrates a lot and no counter balance shaft.
But over all, it is a simple and dependable motor to maintain.

I'm going to tow the ski and put it on land next weekend. I'll be able to work on it a bit better. So I'd assume I have to remove that plastic cover to hand turn the shaft. If the RV gear is toast, I'm going to pull the engine. Should I replace the gear or the entire shaft assembly? What could cause this as I don't want to replace and happen again?
