Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 2000 challenger 1800 m2 210. Last owner had no idea what he was doing with the boat, and I bought it cheap. The motor turns over but will not start and I don't hear fuel pump prime.. Replaced plugs since ones in boat were looking bad.. I ordered a lanyard since 1 was not included but I should be able to start motor by holding down stop switch, correct? PO said gas was new, and he had boat on water a few weeks ago with no issues, he started it for me and it ran rough for 10 sec then died and has not spoken since(dropped price 3000 since I said that's what a rebuild would cost). He also said he recently replaced throttle cable. I just got the merc manual and it seems like he installed it correctly. Motor is clean and no sign it was ever submerged. Any help on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

1 other note, the 3 amp fuse for the fuel primer was corroded. I cleaned up connector and put a new fuse in but no change.

The electric lift pump on the Merc's only pumps while cranking. There's a pulse pump that is the main pump while the engine is running. But, check for voltage at the fuse, the relay, and then check the pump while cranking.

As far as if a rebuild is needed... start with a compression check. You are looking for around 125 psi in each hole.

And finally... YES... if you simply push the lanyard post down... you should get spark. (and run)

Thanks! Will break out the old fluke and get testing. I also found a cut ground wire I need to trace back, unfortunately I it looks like it may come from inner switchbox. It is a small ground ending at the top aft bolt on the switchbox cover plate with about 6 inches of wire before it was cut. Would have to remove the switchboxes to see for sure and I can't tell what goes on that bolt from wiring diagrams I have in manual. I was able to pick up a lanyard locally so I could make things easier, couldn't wait for order, lol.

Hey there, I have exactly the same boat and engine combo... So I was just wondering if you ever got things figured out and got the engine running? Let me know, thx.
