2 Stroke Synthetic Oil choices

Hello everyone,

I am a new owner of a 1997 Seadoo Challenger jet boat with 2 110 hp Rotax engines. We were out boating yesterday and the oil light came on. We looked at the oil tank and realized it was getting down to the minium line. We were a long way from home and bought some oil at the local marina shop. The shop owner told us Penzoil synthetic 2 stroke engine oil for PWC and jet boats would work. I bought 4 quarts (which cost almost $18.00 per quart) and filled up the tank and we continued with our fun for the day.

Upon arriving home and doing some research, I am now realizing that the oil I bought (at a ridiculous high cost) is probably not what I should be using in this particular engine. I have a couple of questions...
1. Did we do damage to our engine by using the Penzoil oil...and do I need to drain out what I put in the tank before I replace it with the right stuff...or is it o.k. to use up what is in the tank before refilling?
2. Are Seadoo dealerships the only place you can buy the right "seadoo oil" for these engines, or do other places sell brands that are appropriate?

Any advice is much appreciated. I am sick that I spent about $80.00 on oil yesterday only to find out it was probably the wrong stuff and may have done more harm than good.

If it is tcw3 than its not good on your engine. Make sure to buy only api-tc oil. And there are lots of places that sell this oil not just seadoo. Walmart has some in certain areas, you can buy online, and I found some at Menards.

Unfortunately I am not entirely sure which kind it was, as I didn't keep a bottle with me after we filled the tank.

Is it so bad I should empty it all out and refill with the right stuff?

just in case you find yourself having to pay that kind of price for oil in the future, I'm guessing 2 quarts would have been plenty to get you thru the day. i run skis not a dual engine boat so maybe someone else can validate the oil consumption rate of your boat.

It depends on which one you bought, im guessing you bought the one they sell for outboards. That is not what you need and is a tcw3 oil. Pennzoil also makes a Outdoor 2-Cycle Oil for Air Cooled Engines, that is API certified and low ash. That one will work but I doubt that is what you got. Either way, $18 a quart is freakin crazy. And a twin engine boat can run through a gallon of oil in 2 hours depending on how hard you run it. A gallon will last a full tank of gas, which can go from a couple hours to all day.
