I just bought a 1993 GTS a week ago. It is in mint condition and when I bought it, it started right away. I took it to the lake and backed it in and was going to warm it up for a while before I pulled it off the trailer. Forgot to put in the plug. By the time I realised it, Water was half way up the motor. Its says in the manual I got on line today, I should tear down the motor??? Is this nessasary? because it did run after I dried it out.

Secondly, After I dried it out and went for a spin it ran great...for about 10 mins, and then the alarm horn went off. I shut it down right away thinking it wasnt getting oil. After i pulled it out and got back to the cabin i realized my mistake...I had put 10w30 motor oil in the oil tank, instead of 2 stroke marine oil. Can someone give me some advice on both situations?? I told my local dealer in service what had happened and he told me to suck out as much of the oil as possible and fill it up with proper oil and also to add some oil to the gas to ensure lubrication until the other oil works its way through. I'm afraid to do anything until I get some advice from someone in the know. Thanks for anything anyone can tell me

Welcome Dr. Hooke!

You don't need to rebuild the motor......................well, at least not yet.

But if you keep doing things like forgetting the drain plugs and running 10W30 oil, you WILL end up needing to rebuild the motor. :o

The dealer is right, you should remove as much oil as possible from the reservoir tank. You can use a turkey baster, siphon, vacuum pump, etc to do this. Other folks may say drain out the oil hoses as well - but since you are so far in right now, I wouldn't bother. Then fill with the correct Seadoo 2-stroke oil, not just any ol' marine 2 stroke oil.

For the fuel tank, I'd add maybe 80:1 ratio for the time being - really only a splash of oil in a full tank. (keeping in mind that in premix mode, 40:1 is the normal ratio).

Get things running again (probably a lot of smoke and need to make sure the motor doesn't overheat).

Then run a compression check on the cylinders to see if you had an ring/cylinder damage. This doesn't address what is going on at the crankshaft, but worry about later unless the motor is just rattling itself to death.

Thanks JPX
