1999 gsx rfi red maintenance light flashing

Red maintenance light is flashing.... do you need the candoo or buds to read this and turn it off

Ski is also backfiring at times through the throttle body enough to blow the flame arrestor off
Anyone know of what this may be

Sounds like rotary valve might be stripped. But yes you will need CanDoo Pro to read the codes.

Is it possible to remove the rotary shaft while the engine is in the ski?
Also if you remove the shaft will I have to replace the seal or can I reuse the one that comes out?
