Greetings and salutations to all.
Let me start off by saying yes i know the ski is gelcoated and not painted!

My Gtx Ltd has undergone a full rebuild and all mechanical components have been freshened up. Now comes the fun part of cosmetics. Im attemting to paint over some small scuffs scratches and repairs on the gunnels. I cant for the life of me find the color. One thread ive seen says "Ice White" but i cant find record of this even existing. Others say "Super White" i find plenty of record of this existing but i see that it says it was only used up to 1997. My machine is of course a 98'. Ide greatly apreciate any input be it a paint code or a name of a color. Thanks!

You can get big or small quantities from the actual factory supplier for a very close match.
I think it is Gelcoat International.

There will be no paint match unless you have an autobody paint supplier try to match it locally.

Thank you miki, you seem to be the gift that keeps on giving. Can they only match the gel coat or can they do touch up paint too? Edit* didnt see the part about no paint match. Im gonna see about getting some color pallets from the local hardware store. If i cant match by that im gonna be buying that gel coat!

Gelcote international has custom brp colors. For 1998 year they have both whites that you mentioned. They have touch up kit, quart and gallon sizes.

Do they sell matched paint as well as gelcoat? I have some hoods I'd like NOT to paint completely.

Seadoo only used gelcoat on the hulls so that is what you would be getting. I think the 1997-2004 XP's might have painted the hoods.

The damage has already been resined amd sanded flush with the hull. Theres an off coat of paint on it so youd only be able to see a discolored area. I cab still post pics tho if youd like.
For white touch up I use Rust-Oleum Gloss White Appliance Epoxy spray paint. If you take your time and blend it in nice, wet sand and buff it you will have great results. I've never had anyone notice a repair I did that way.

You guys kill me with painting the ski, it's not nearly as durable, give it a couple seasons and it'll look like crap. You can buy a gallon of white gelcoat from FGCI coatings for about a $100 and roll it on, and yes the finishing is a lot of back breaking work to get it sanded smooth. But once you do and you polish, glaze, wax, it's so bright in the sun you need to wear sunglasses looking at it.

I've done 2 skis, and the results came out great, now all I do is rewax once a season.

FGCI coatings FGCI | Fiberglass Coatings sells anywhere from small repair to gelcoat by the gallon, the brushable stuff is supposed to better if you want to brush it on. If you're gonna do an entire top or bottom get a gallon, you'll need to apply several coats. The mixing the MEKP or catalyst is key, which they come packaged with, ambient temperature impacts pot time and curing. I'd say the threshold is about 60 - 85 degrees, ideal temp is about 75.

You can't reuse anything, and you've got about 10 minutes to get it applied, it's pretty brutal stuff to mess with. I did a pint at time, a higher amount is harder to manage because of the time crunch (found out trial and error). If you want to cover the entire ski either top or bottom, search my 97' GTX or 96' GSX resto threads.

You can start a thread or continue on here, I'll assist anyway I can, I couldn't find anybody that did it when I attempted the first time on the 97' GTX.20190210_183121.jpg

My Kawasaki doesn't have gel coat so I used paint. Can you use the gel coat to repair a small area? I would think the color would be off a little.

20yr old gelcoat isn't easy to match, but Gelcoat International does have some that'll match up pretty close, it's not cheap though. Unless a person does an entire area like say the topside or bottom, it's not easy to make it match perfectly. If the gelcoat looks fairly nice on a ski and it's just a small area, a gelcoat repair kit is what I'd do.
