1998 GTi

Tried to post this earlier, but either the link was bad, or it was deleted - not sure what happened:

New to the forum - Just stumbled on the website yesterday. Wish I had searched more a long time ago!!

Hoping the group might be able to help with something. I have a 98 GTi (original owner) and the deflector broke off last weekend. Bought a GTX deflector off of e-bay (looks like the same part).

Questions:
1) Are the deflectors Gel Coated like the main hull or are the painted. The one I ordered is red (my boat is green) so I plan to have it painted. Any advice on paints/process for best results?

2) The GTi decal on the front is also obsolete. Does anyone know if there is a shop that is reproducing the decal? If not would someone be willing to send me a picture so I can try to have it reproduced? Would like to keep the boat stock if possible.

Not sure what you mean by deflector, but the decal your asking about, I think is the BRP emblem. They were put on with a low quality glue. WHen it got hot, it would allow the BRP emblem to move. Mine finally fell off. It's not a decal, but a plastic medallion.

Hi Seadoosnipe,
the deflector is the part the covers the gauges (over the storage compartment). At least that's what it is called on the SeaDoo parts website.

The Sticker is the GTI badge that goes on the top of that - the BRP badge is on the nose (still have that one).

Yes, they are painted. I've never called it the deflector, and never had to order or cross reference it. Thanks, I'll try to remember that the cover for the gages is called, the "deflector"... wonder what it deflects?... air?...LOL.. Thanks for the enlightenment. BUt, yes, it's painted.

You can paint the gauge cover, I used Krylon fusion paint. The gauge covers on my ski's are colored plastic, sometimes they fade badly. Dr Honda made the graphic.

Thanks for the replies! Wasn't sure about Gelcoat or paint for that. I have a buddy that runs a body shop so I may just try to see if he'll colormatch it. Can't be that much to do that small part.

Yeah - my first search wasn't for a DEFLECTOR either. I guess it keeps wind/spray out of your face and off the gauges, but that thing deflected itself right onto my forehead when it came off at 50MPH. I'm sure it looked funny to anyone that saw it.

Nice job on the paint Loudoo! Looks good! Where did you get that decal? Not stock, right? Wondering if (whoever) did that one could print up a GTi one. :thumbsup:
