Top End Recieved

I finally received my top end from Fairchild Performance on Thursday. They had to go .50 over due to the trash I had stuck in the pistons.:hurray::cheers:
I have put the heads and pistons in today Sunday (Fathers day) and wouldn't you know it the battery only has a charge of 11.94 volts. I had the battery charging since Friday night on 2 amps.

It is sad that I just bought this battery in the beginning of May and can not find the receipt. Does anyone know if Advanced Auto keeps you name on file for the warranty for battery's?

Oh ya, I also have to find and exhaust manifold bolt. Any ideas here where to get the bolt for the Rotax 717 engine?

Thanks,

Vic

battery warranty....

Yeah, you should be able to take it back to them. Also, if I remember right, they have a little plastic bag or tape, something like that, where they stick your warranty info on the battery. But they put that info in the computer too.

Exhaust manifold bolt.........take one to your local auto parts store and see if they can size it up to yours. The size is M8 (metric). I doubt they have the allen head type, but you may be able to substitute.

Top end installed... and No Joy!

Today was to be the day... I got everything buttoned up and ready to fire it up. Here is what I did:

1. Installed new top end and torque everything down to spec.
2. Put in 5 gallons of gas & 1 qt 2 stroke oil then 10 gallons on top of that.
3. Installed Battery.
4. Sprayed the cylinders down with WD-40 and installed new gapped spark plugs.
5. Hooked up the water hose and let in some water since the system was dry. About 3 to 5 seconds worth.
6. Put on the DESS and she sputtered and coughed.
7. Pulled the choke and the fuel came fast. Could tell because of inline fuel filter.
8. Added a little more water.
9. Started to turn over again and that is when it happened... CLICK.
10. I push the starter button and get CLICK. No motor turning just CLICK.

What could this mean? Should I take the heads back off and see if the walls are damaged do to the slight running for a second or two?

I need help for the CLICK.

Thanks,

Vic

I took the top half off the head and there is just a minute trace of water. I can move the PTO back and forth about half an inch and I can see that the pistons are OK as they move when the PTO is moved.

Starter seems weak.

After staring at the ski for a few hours today I had a revalation. I turned the PTO counter clock wise five full rotations with the spark plugs removed.

I plugged in the DESS an did not get any beeps but the engine turned over. I then installed the spark plugs and got about a half of a PTO rotation and CLICK. Then after about five times of remove and installing the DESS and just getting CLICK, I took the spark plugs out and again it turned over like a champ.

So what would cause this?
Do I have to much compression at around 158 on each?
Could the starter need to be rebuilt? If so what part should I replace first?
