1997 xp goes fast a idle

again first time jet ski owner--1997XP
when at idle speed, how fast should the ski be going
seems to me it is going too fast when there is no throttle
is there a carburetor adjustment?

The RPM in the water should be about 1,500 RPM. There is an idle adjustment.

just realized i posted in the wrong forum

on a 1997 xp I do not believe there is a tach
how can i tell what the rpms are?

Idle should be about 1500rpm in the water, if you're on the hose about 3000rpm. Yes, there is an idle adjustment, it's on the linkage on the mag. carb., it has a "T" handle. You access it through a square hole on the cable mounting bracket under the carbs.
