1997 wear ring issue?

hello all...
i have a 1997 seadoo challenger with the 787.
i took the boat out for its maiden voyage this morning.
i just had it checked out a a local marine store and they gave it a clean bill of health.
Since i dont know much about the boat i thought it best to have it all checked out b4 i used it.

So i put it in the lake this morning and it started up no problem and i went on my way. As i pulled away from the launch the boat was fine at a very low speed and functioned correctly. But once i went to give it some juice not a heck of alot happened.....the engine sounds good.....but the boat just doesnt go very fast......i reved it up and it would only go about 15mph?

any help with this problem would be huge...

cheers

Welcome to the seadoo forum NJ69007. It sounds like the wear ring is shot. You can check the clearence, by eye, if it is like lots of room between the impeller and the pump, or it is gouged real good chances are it needs replacing. The service limit with a feeler guage is .040". The reason it doesn't go fast is because the impeller relies on the water pressure getting thrusted out the rear of the jet pump. If the gap is too big between the impeller and the pump it looses it's thrust. Check the impeller too for damage. If you wanted to change this yourself you could. Give us a shout and we'll give you some basics to replacing it.
