I may be going this weekend to look at a 1997 model GTX. No info on hours. Looks to be in good condition. Asking price is $1,950. Assuming compression checks out, hours aren't too high and water test goes ok, does this sound like a good deal? Would like to have a reliable, stable ski for wife and vistors to use.

I sold my near mint 97 GTX on a newer shorlandr trailer for 2000$. 97 GTX is my favorite 3 seater Seadoo. Great cruiser, very stable, reliable, and still has nice power

Check compression, look at the pump.. Wear ring, impeller etc. check compression, look for grey fuel lines, ask to see the oil bottle that he was using, and ask him what maintenance he does. That will tell you a lot about the skis life.
If it all checks out perfect the price is ok..ish. I would try to get him around 1500$

For $1950.00 it should be pretty much in mint condition, low hours, and water test before you buy. But yes it's a great ski, very similar to my 96GSX, except larger.

FYI, I paid $800.00 for my 96GSX two years ago, but it did have some problems, but was mechanically sound.

Very good tips and advice from everyone so far. Here on Smith Lake, $1500 - $2000 is the going price for nice, running, good looking, 97 GTXs. However, if it is less than a 'cherry', offers below 1k are appropriate. Good Luck!!
