My drunk brother road my 1997 gtx seadoo and turned it over 10ft from my dock and capsized it and he did not have the lanyard on properly and the engine ran for about 30 seconds upside down until I got to it. The engine was vapor locked so I took the spark plugs out and overturned the motor and a ton of water came out. The machines fires not but will not run. What do it need to do? There seems to be water in the carb still.

thanks
Brian

First off, I'd shoot my brother. Secondly, I am not sure this is 100% but I have heard that once you get water in these engines, you are basically looking at a tear down and possible rebuild. Was it salt or fresh water? If salt, you're done. Seals are shot and all the bearings etc. If fresh, you might still be done! If water was in the combustion chambers that means it had probably met all the bearings, the carbs, everything. You might get it running again but once you let it sit, the engine will rust from the inside.

My guess is that you'll have to have the entire engine torn down and cleaned if it has not been ruined. You most certainly will if it was salt, but if fresh I will let one of the more seasoned forum guys chime in. I'm a pwc owner and have been building auto engines and motorcycles for years, but with these marine engines, I am not 100% about water in the engine. I just know that the last thing I want is to flip mine upside down even though they are most of the time ok....and the LAST LAST last things is that I want water in the engine. Esp. from some drunk dumbass flipping it for NO other reason. Either way, I think you are now in a very serious situation. Good luck.

keep expell'n the water, eventually, it'll take. Dont try giv'n it gas, or you'll kill it. Let it idle for a few, then start eas'n the throttle. After all that, install new plugs, and if anything, throw a couple oz. of premix oil into tank...motors, fine.
