1997 GTI boggling

Hello all, any advice is appreciated.
My 97 GTI starts, will idle, but when I give it gas will boggle and shut off. I replace the gray fuel lines, cleaned the carb, replaced spark plugs and the battery is good. It does have old fuel. (Haven’t got around to changing out). Sometimes after boggling off it won’t start again and sometimes won’t even click.

Some info needed. Has it been sitting longer than a season? When was the last time the carb was rebuilt? If you recently replaced the gray lines verify your routing and connections. How did you clean the carb? I would do a compression test while your tinkering around. I would also get rid of the gas, especially if you are using ethanol gas.

It’s been sitting for several years. Picked it up for 100$. Believe it’s sat since 2015.

check compression and most likely need to rebuild carbs. the previous owner could have rebuilt them with junk parts too
