So.. I have a 1997 Sea-Doo GTI 717 with a bad engine. I bought a 717 out of a 1998 GTI. Got ready to install it and noticed that my 97 has a engine cradle and the 98 uses four engine mount brackets. The only difference I see between the 97 and 98 is the MAG cover. If i swap the covers, could I then use the engine cradle? Or, is it possible that the four brackets would match up with the motor mounts in the hull? Thanks for any input.

The cradle won't fit because of the Mag cover. The 98 cover has a place for the engine bracket, that is keeping the cradle from fitting correctly.

You can swap the mag housing, stator, and cover over on the new engine. You will need a new gasket though that goes between the engine and mag housing.

You'll also need a flywheel puller as they can be a real pain to remove.

Thanks.. I figured that is what I needed to do. Hopefully that's the only issue I run into. Luckily I have the puller.

Okay guys.. I finally got time to change the stator housing. When I pulled the cover off, I found oil in the housing. My other housing was clean, so I am assuming there should not be oil in the housing. Right? If so, what could be the problem?

That's what I thought. Would it be ok like this, or do I need to split the case and replace the seal?
