I have a 97 GS with a 717 motor and it just stopped. I have found that the 5amp fuse was blown. When i tried to replace it, it blew as soon as i put it in. Any suggestions as to what the problem is please ?
Regards
BJ

could be a few things but I'd suspect mag/stator issues or a faulty MPEM. unplug the grey square electrical connector at the front of the motor and then replace the 5A to see if it blows.

Faulty MPEM...

It's going to be the diode in the MPEM causing it. The one from the mag/starter is the 15 amp. This is common from using a jump start from a running vehicle.

With a few PM's or a phone call, you might find a repair. Go to the buy/sale and trade section of the forum. There is a sticky for a member who goes by "All Things Custom". I haven't heard from him in a while but he used to be here quite often. He's helped many members get their MPEM's fixed.

There is a phone # in the avatar if you'd like to give him a shout. Make sure you tell him your from the forum to get the best prices.

locate the rectifier, and disconnect the yellow wires and the one red wire, if it still pops, then yes, a new mpem.

Thanks for the help. It is leaning towards that diode in the mpem. I have opened her up and will replace the diode and let you all know how it went.
