believe, in 99' or 00', the challenger took on the existing "Speedster" look along with twin 717's...14.5ft

yah, if he's referring to 97' models, than yah, the challenger(14.5) has 787, while the 1800(18ft) has (2)787..

yeah i have always been a little confused with the speedster/sportster/challenger 14.5ft boats. I believe that the 18 ft. challenger was called the challenger 1800 and the challengers with the merc engine were challenger 2000; these are the best pics i have at the moment of my interior; ignore the ugly guy standing on the boat:rofl:; i can get some better pics of the interior layout tomorrow if needed and as soon as i get my tax return i am planning on getting some hydro-turn in the light gray diamond-cut for the boat:hurray:

Nice looking boat!
It sure looks the same layout as my 97 Speedster.
I'm looking at doing the hydro turf too, I have it around the center hatch on the engine hatch and the swim platform, but want to add it to the rest of the boat.

I have the 1997 challenger 1800 with twin 787.
I find it hard to beleive that more models don't have the chairs spin, both my passenger and drivers chairs turn 180 degrees and move forward or back.

Just brought her home

Ended up picking up the '97 Challenger. Pics attached with my co-pilot.

Need some cosmetics though. Any idea where I can find the white plastic cupholder inserts?

Also, would like to recover the green portions of the bench seat. Are new covers available (pre-made) anywhere or are these a local manufacture?

Thanks for all the help during my search.

Larry

Congrats, Saupe....boat looks cool. Cupholders, you find at Wal-mart for around 2 buks. May need to get sand paper and open holes up a tad, though. For seats, think you can get pre-made ones, but then if you cant install, then have to pay someone. Cost me 600 buks, for all new upholstery and foam for mine...congrats again.

Congrats!!!!

Check out the parts link in the top right corner for the cup holders.
There is a listing for the seat cover in the same source, but it is $274.
I would get a local shop to do it or you could do it like this guy did:

There appear to be a bunch of 4 way stretch vinyl that would make it pretty easy. I did my seat center cushions with marine grade vinyl, but might do the main sections now.
Keep us posted on the progress of your new toy.

Who is up for helping me compile info on the various boats along with pictures for every year? I have a 98 speedster and it looks totally different....

nice looking boat i am sure that you will have tons of fun with it

Congratulations on the boat. It looks really nice. Is the vinyl on your seats worn out or molded? Or do you just want to change the color?

Nice ! How much did you pay if you don't mind answering ? (to see how good of a deal I got)
I just bought one 3 weeks ago and I love it. It's a 1996 model.
Couple things I suggest you check (from my own short experience with this boat):
-RAVE Valves. Mine were in really bad shape. I cleaned them, ordered a rebuild kit and gained ~1000rpm ~15mph.
-Make sure VTS works. VTS was not working on mine and the VTS auto-centering feature is crap IMO...I couldn't get it to work right.
-Check/Change Jet pump oil.

Other than that I'm REALLY happy with this boat :hurray:

Great inputs many thanks. Just shot you a PM on the sell $$.

When the ice finally leaves up here, what number (RPM) should I be anticipating at full power? Have you checked your top speed?

max RPM I get is around 7000 and top speed around 45mph...I just got a GPS so I'm going to check this weekend how accurate the speedometer is.

:agree: max RPM is ~7000 and i have seen my speedometer get up to 53:cheers:

NAUTIQELFE:

Seat covers are hard and a bit cracked in areas (as well as some discoloring fading). Only the green sections though. White areas look good. Must be the heat absoroption thing. Foam is all good (no holes in the coverings).

Looking at options now. Might go for the OEM covers.

Battery Draw during connection/disconnection

Do any of you guys notice a small spark jump when connecting or disconnecting your battery ground terminal?

It not a large one, but still an electrical draw nonetheless. Nothing is turned on and the tether is not put in. I will have to put an ammeter on it to see just how much draw there actually is. I am leaving the battery disconnected for now.

Any idea's?

Larry S.

The bottom is really easy to redo.(the top is a nightmare). Four yards of viny, a pneumatic stapler, and someone with a sewing machine(I can do it if you dont know anyone) will run you less than 140.
