Hi. What could be causing this?

Symptoms:

One of my 787 engines cycles from high RPM to low RPMs when running at mid to full throttle most of the time.
This engine also frequently shuts off after starting when cold and takes a few attempts.
It also shuts off at idle when warm or cold often but not all the time.
The double chirp sound when plugging in the key sometimes gives two loud chirps as expected but also only gives weak sounding chirps. I can still start it in any case though.
The two engines sound very different in that they have a different pitch.

Not sure if these are related problems. I can live with all the problems with the exception of the first problem since it doesn't go fast enough when the condition exists for tubing.

I just had my carbs rebuilt by a professional seadoo mechanic. He says it is an electrical/ignition problem and not a fuel problem but can't diagnose the problem precisely. He says he can change the "stator" to see if that fixes it and if that does not work he would change the MPEM (obsolete and last listed for $2000? so would not be an option for such an old boat)

any thoughts out there?
